Sangeet Som’s speech a dangerous premonition?


If there is presence of something today, then there has to be a past and this past is known as HISTORY. For example, if you have a metal idol in your hand, the matter was definitely in the form of an ore in some part of its journey. As for a country, well, knowledge about a State comes after reading about its History and to claim to change the same is dangerous and would ensure a dark future.

BJP’s controversial lawmaker, Sangeet Som, who apparently paved way for the Muzaffarnagar riots, is back with yet another bizarre comment that he would change History. You may not like the idea that the Mughals ruled India for a long time but you can’t rub it off from History. After all, if your kid asks you who made the Taj Mahal, would you say that the Bharatiya Janata Party laid its foundation stone?
His foolishness was also out in the open when he said that the one who built the Taj Mahal had imprisoned his father. Ehh wait a minute, Shah Jahan imprisoned Jahangir? Really?

But taking his words lightly would be foolish on the part of alert Indians. While the BJP wants to wash its hands off the controversy sparked off by his speech topped with the man himself trying to cover up his mess, it is important to note that the lawmaker has talked of “changing History”.

As mentioned earlier, History is what helps people to understand a country but the same, if changed, would create unnecessary confusion. If a section of BJP leaders’ hate for Mughal rulers is so profound, they must be knowing that several books that spoke of India as a country and its traditions and culture were destroyed by either the British or others, thus rendering the future of the country in darkness. However, after a lot of research and continuous attempts by several social scientists, slowly the work on bridging the gap is taking a good shape. This, if stopped by foolish attempts to “save India”, will hamper the work that can help the country move forward. And if the Mughals have destroyed your history, what are you trying to do now by vowing to “change History”?

According to a source, I wish not to name, constant attempts by the ruling disposition are being made to change History. While this might not have an immediate effect on our generation, it will completely change the way our future generations would look at the country.

Worried about how to combat such dastardly attempts? Well, remember Harry Potter saying that Lord Voldemort might have everything but one and that is friendship? The case is somewhat same here. The anti-History lawmakers may be having the power of the world but one thing that they do not possess is KNOWLEDGE. So just grab it from anywhere you get it but be careful and always remember to check your facts from the ones who really know the game.
