Sangeet Som’s speech a dangerous premonition?

If there is presence of something today, then there has to be a past and this past is known as HISTORY. For example, if you have a metal idol in your hand, the matter was definitely in the form of an ore in some part of its journey. As for a country, well, knowledge about a State comes after reading about its History and to claim to change the same is dangerous and would ensure a dark future. BJP’s controversial lawmaker, Sangeet Som, who apparently paved way for the Muzaffarnagar riots, is back with yet another bizarre comment that he would change History. You may not like the idea that the Mughals ruled India for a long time but you can’t rub it off from History. After all, if your kid asks you who made the Taj Mahal, would you say that the Bharatiya Janata Party laid its foundation stone? His foolishness was also out in the open when he said that the one who built the Taj Mahal had imprisoned his father. Ehh wait a minute, Shah Jahan imprisoned Jahangir? Really? But t...

Your boss has not bought you, so protest

I had long thought that I will abstain myself from scribbling my thoughts on this topic but a deep-rooted hatred urged me to finally voice my concerns. I have always had more number of female friends than male ones and probably for this reason I am closer, than many of my friends, to the problems that a woman faces. A girlfriend or two of mine keep telling me that I am their girlfriend with whom they can share anything. And this is wherefrom my source of agony often arises. Often my female friends confide in me things which ultimately have to be kept hushed up for no reason. Many of you know that I have joined a job just a year ago. So have my friends in different companies. Of late, a few of my female friends are complaining of workplace harassment. And this is irking me no ends with the only way for me to vent out being writing. Decent, indecent, direct, indirect, verbal, physical, mental etc are a few of the many ways my friends are facing problems. And I believe m...

Will the shift from BS-IV to VI cost Audi in India?

By Ankit Berry New Delhi:   India is trying hard to move towards being a greener country and has been bringing in a slew of measures to curb the menace of pollution. In one such step towards a better India, the Government of India decided to move from BS-IV standards to BS-VI norms. Audi India head Joe King welcomed this, however,  apprehensively. Joe feels that the move from BS-IV norms to BS-VI norms directly is a good move and it would be beneficial for manufacturers as it reduces complexit ies and therefore, the cost substantially. But he is scared that the adequate fuel quality to implement this may be hard to achieve. This shift from BS-IV – VI has a target of 2020. This has most car makers in a fix as a slew of regulations are about to hit them. On top of that, new vehicles with a diesel engine capacity of above 2000 cc are not allowed to be registered in Delhi. According to Joe, these rules have confused car makers i n terms of the diesel issue...

Will the Left and the Congress still continue to be allies?

With the results clearly indicating a landslide victory for the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress in West Bengal the pertinent question that arises is whether the Left and the Congress will continue to be allies or not. Well, it was never a secret that the Left had joined hands with the Congress in West Bengal because they were apprehensive about their victory and their fears were proved correct. If we see, then the ideological difference between the two parties is not a hard thing to etch. Political history tells us that the two parties are dead against each other. In South India, they are dead against each other. Is this the reason why the people in West Bengal could not bestow faith upon the compromised friendship? Or was it the Mamata magic that created an illusion even this time? However, it is important to mention that the Left and Congress ally did have an impact in some of the Trinamool bastions. In Kolkata, the Jadavpur constituency had always been filled with Left sy...

Sorry Delhi but the new Merc is not for you!

At the launch in Delhi New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz GLS, face lifted the GL and launched it with a new name in the Indian market on Wednesday for Rs 80.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). This car has come at a time when Mercedes has been enjoying a lovely year in India. Its sale from April 2015 to March 2016 has been 13,558 units, the highest ever. This has given them the confidence to launch an SUV, which will not be sold in Delhi but the company expects a good sales figure. Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India called the GLS, ‘The S-Class of SUVs’ and he is not very far of the mark. The GLS comes with a three litre V6 diesel engine that produces 258 bhp and 620 Nm of peak torque. This beast of an engine is attached to a nine speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels with the power distribution is controlled by the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel-drive system. Speaking at the launch, Folger said, “The introduction of the GLS underscores...

Your muscular Scorpio may lead you to death, read how

Ankit Berry New Delhi: How many of you felt that a car which had the looks of an SUV is safer than most of the tiny hatchbacks you see on the road? Well, I am sure most of you felt, the bulkier the car looks, safer it shall be. Unfortunately that is not the case. Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) has tested another round of Indian cars and the results to be honest are pathetic. Starting from the tiny Hyundai Eon to the muscular Mahindra Scorpio, all the cars tested scored zero stars in adult occupant protection. The base version of the Scorpio was tested and this is what Global NCAP had to say: “The protection offered to the driver’s head and chest was poor and the passenger’s chest received marginal protection. The passengers’ knees could impact with dangerous structures in the dashboard. The body shell was rated as unstable and cannot withstand further loadings.” The Maruti Suzuki Eeco did not perform any better. Yes, it is a great runabout vehicle but i...
